MUS Summer Convening 2026: The Power of Connection

What a time we had at the Midwest Urban Strategies Summer Convening in Northwest Indiana!

As I reflect on our days together, I am incredibly grateful to have been part of such an inspiring experience. From our Annual Meeting to visits to the Elston Hub, St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, the B.I.G. Project in Gary, and yes, even our unexpected bus breakdown, we experienced something special together.

We learned. We shared. We collaborated. We explored innovative approaches to workforce development. We strengthened existing relationships and built new ones. And if I had to guess, I suspect a few partnerships, projects, and deals were sparked along the way.

One of my greatest joys as Membership Director is watching our members and those who have not yet joined MUS come together with a shared purpose. Time and again, I witness workforce leaders, educators, community organizations, employers, and innovators intentionally supporting one another, exchanging ideas, and expanding the impact of their work.

This year's convening reinforced something I have long believed: our ability to convene and connect is MUS's secret sauce.

In a world where challenges are increasingly complex, the opportunity to gather face-to-face, learn from one another, and build authentic relationships remains one of the most valuable resources we can offer. The conversations that happen between sessions, on the bus, over meals, and during site visits often become the seeds of future collaborations and transformative initiatives.

To everyone who joined us, thank you for making this convening such a success.

And to our guests and not-yet members who experienced MUS for the first time, I hope you felt the energy, purpose, and sense of community that make this organization unique. I would love the opportunity to talk with you about becoming part of the MUS family before next year's convening.

Let's keep the momentum going. The connections made in Northwest Indiana are just the beginning.

See you soon....Kellie
