Expanding the Circle: Why MUS Membership Growth Matters Right Now

The workforce system isn’t just evolving; it’s being redefined in real time.

Skills are changing. Career pathways are shifting. The line between education, training, and work is blurring. And no single organization or even sector can keep up alone.

That’s exactly why Midwest Urban Strategies (MUS) is growing the way it is.

At our core, MUS is built on a strong foundation of workforce development boards, grounded in communities, connected to employers, and accountable for results. That foundation matters. It keeps our work real, practical, and responsive.

But today’s challenges demand more.

That’s where our expanding membership comes in.

As MUS grows beyond the Midwest, we’re not just adding geography; we’re adding perspective, insight, and reach. And with the intentional growth of our Affiliate Membership, we’re bringing the full workforce ecosystem to the table: education partners, training providers, assessment and skills organizations, consultancies, foundations, and national associations.

This is where the real power is.

Because the biggest barrier right now isn’t a lack of effort, it’s a lack of alignment.

Different sectors speak different languages.

Different systems measure different things.

Different strategies for solving the same problems.

MUS exists to change that.

We are the connectors, linking people, organizations, and ideas across boundaries.

We are the conveners, creating space for honest conversation and shared learning.

We are the translators, helping the ecosystem move toward a collective understanding of what this moment requires.

And as our network grows, so does our ability to respond, not in silos, but as a coordinated force.

This is what positions MUS differently. Not just as a network, but as infrastructure for alignment in a changing economy.

And we’re just getting started.

This month, we’re proud to welcome new members who strengthen that vision:

  • Foundation for Talent Transformation (nationwide)
  • Purpose Works Consulting (nationwide)
  • Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board (Waterbury, Connecticut)

Each member brings critical perspectives to the table and expands what’s possible for all of us.

Because the future of workforce development won’t be built in isolation.

It will be built together.

And at MUS, that work is already underway.
